Welcome back to Acton! On our first pass through town, we saw almost every supermarket in town. Check out the old and new Stop & Shop, the Roche Brothers, Idylwilde Farms, Mei Ya, and Donelan's. But we missed one store: this Trader Joe's, which takes up about 13,000 square feet on the southeastern side of town.
Inside, it's a pretty standard Trader Joe's. Produce is on the left side, with dairy and cheese on the back wall. Frozen foods are in the middle, with meat and nonfoods in the last aisle.
The grocery aisles run diagonally across the middle of the store, with frozen foods in the middle.
This was one of the relatively early Trader Joe's in the Boston area, opening around 2000. The first stores in the Boston area opened in Cambridge and Brookline in 1996.
Upright and single-tier frozen foods cases in the middle. I assume Trader Joe's still uses these because it's easier to spot and grab products, but they're energy inefficient enough that they're gone from most other supermarkets.
Incidentally, this store is just under a mile south of Donelan's.
And while we're on the subject of Acton, another grocer is slated to open in part of the former Stop & Shop but no name has been announced yet.
A good friend of mine used to work in the Acton Town Hall, so this decor over the meat department amused me. It's a quaint, very New England building.
And a look across the front-end...
These floor-to-ceiling windows are a great touch and they make the interior feel very open and bright.
And that wraps up our look at Acton once again, though I'll try to get back once the Stop & Shop replacement opens up. Tomorrow is one final store to the northwest of Boston before we move on!
