Waterbury Village Market - Waterbury, VT

Waterbury Village Market Opened: ca. 1990 Owner: Associated Grocers Northeast Previous Tenants: unknown Cooperative: Associated Grocers Northeast Location: 80 S Main St, Waterbury, VT Photographed: August 10, 2025 In this somewhat remote part of northern Vermont, most small-town supermarkets (and general stores and convenience stores and food stores in general) are supplied by Associated Grocers Northeast, formerly Associated Grocers of New England. But AGNE also owns some stores in Vermont and New Hampshire, including this one and this one that we've already toured. Here's another store owned by AGNE, the Waterbury Village Market in the small town of Waterbury. To situate yourself, we're about 10 miles northwest of Montpelier and 25 miles southeast of Burlington. Looking at this exterior, it really looks like this store is a modified A&P centennial , right? Wrong. This 22,000 square foot building was actually built between 1986 and 1996, or a couple decades af...

Pratt's Store - Bridport, VT

Pratt's Store Opened: 1969 Owner: Darwin Pratt Previous Tenants: unknown Cooperative:  unknown Location: 2504 VT-22A, Bridport, VT Photographed: August 9, 2025 Our first store is the only grocer here in Bridport, Vermont -- a town of just about 1200 -- and it's Pratt's Store, a general store/small supermarket of around 4,000 square feet. It's been Pratt's since 1969, but it was likely another grocery store prior to that. It also has a gas station out front, as many of these small-town stores are really the one-stop shop. Now, my pictures are only from a drive-by in the summer of 2025, but thanks to these images posted by Adirondack Drone to Google Maps, we can actually see a full store tour thanks to this interactive set of views. I've included a few key ones below, but definitely click and drag to tour the store in 3-D! So it looks like grab and go prepared foods, frozen, and nonfoods are here in the first aisle on the left side. Deli and butcher are at ...

River Bend Farm Market - Townshend, VT

River Bend Farm Market Opened: unknown Owner: Paul Bedortha Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative: Associated Grocers of New England Location: 625 VT-30, Townshend, VT Photographed: August 12, 2021 Another AGNE store (it seems that the majority of independent grocers of northern New England are members of the AGNE cooperative) here in the very small town of Townshend, Vermont. This one is the River Bend Farm Market, definitely somewhere between a true farm market and a full supermarket. I spotted plenty of local and fresh produce, locally made products, and homemade baked goods, but there's also a full line of groceries. I wasn't able to find much on the history here, but the building was constructed sometime around the late 1990s or 2000. Produce is on the right side in the first aisle, with deli/bakery at the end of the first aisle. Meats and a large service butcher counter line the back wall, with frozen and dairy on the left side in the last aisle. This building clea...

Londonderry Village Market - Londonderry, VT

Londonderry Village Market Opened: 2019 Owner:  Associated Grocers of New England Previous Tenants:  Clark's Quality Foods IGA (1975-2019) Cooperative: Associated Grocers of New England Location: 5700 VT-100, Londonderry, VT Photographed: August 10, 2021 Down the road from Mike & Tammy's is Londonderry's full service supermarket. From 1975 until the store's sale in 2019, this 25,000 square foot supermarket was Clark's IGA . When Clark's owners retired, they sold the store to Associated Grocers of New England. This is now one of a handful of corporate-owned stores that the cooperative runs, along with some other Village Market stores in Vermont and others like Vista Foods . This is the first of several Village Market stores that I'll be posting. It doesn't look like AGNE did much renovation when they moved in, and truthfully the store doesn't really need it. It's not brand-new but a very nice small-town grocer. Produce and bakery are on t...
