Old World Food Market
You can see that even if the basic setup is the same, the new Old World Food Market looks nothing like the previous store.
In its final few months, this store actually became an Associated supermarket, but never actually changed the branding. As of writing, the location is still listed on the Associated website.
Part of the issue here might have been that this store was really just a small supermarket. That's not particularly in demand when the much larger and more full-service Stop & Shop is so nearby. But a higher-end gourmet market could definitely work. The Nyack Old World location has no trouble coexisting with a much larger ShopRite about a mile west.
Opened: September 24, 2026
The store is narrow and deep, as it's carved out of part of a former Waldbaum's, one of the chain's few ventures to this side of the Hudson. (The rest became a CVS.) There's a deli with prepared foods in the front-right corner, with produce lining the right-side wall in an alcove. Meat and seafood are at the back, with gourmet cheeses and grocery aisles in the middle. Dairy and frozen are on the left side, with bakery and the registers in the front-left corner.
Between Waldbaum's and Old World, this store was an independent called the Orange Farm Market. It looks like it changed ownership a few times during its tenure from 2002 to 2025, and while the layout was very similar, Old World has beautifully renovated the space, making it feel fresh and new. They've also adorned it with a variety of old world-style artifacts, like baskets and multiple boats...
...including one that displays a bunch of produce and another for the seafood department, while another hangs above it. I was here on the second day Old World was open, so it was still a soft opening, but the store was looking beautiful even then.
This is definitely somewhere between a small gourmet grocer and a full supermarket. I don't think most people would fill a shopping cart here, but that's also not the point -- this smaller grocer has coexisted with far larger Stop & Shop just about half a mile east for years.
This space feels somewhat sparse compared to the deluxe decor of the Nyack location, but it's still quite nice. They've done a good job bringing in some of the same elements that are in the larger location, right down to the same awning over the bakery. (Side note: I may or may not have gone a little overboard buying baked goods from this store when I visited, and they were all delicious.)
Not sure if they're baking in-store or bringing items in from the other location, but there does appear to be prep space in this store that's not visible from the sales floor. The bakery department also has a coffee bar that was still getting up and running when I visited.
Looking back towards the rest of the supermarket. You can see some of the more deluxe touches, like the chandelier and the windows here.
I also have a tour of the Orange Farm Market shortly before it closed, so let's check it out!
The layout was basically the same, with deli in the front-right corner and the registers opposite it. Produce was on the right side and there used to be a seafood counter on the back wall. Dairy and frozen were on the left side. The Orange Farm Market was a much lower-end store, and was fairly rundown when I visited at the beginning of last year.Owner: Andrew Poma, Jr.
Old World Food Market in Nyack, up in Rockland County, is one of my favorite gourmet grocers in the area. Now, Old World Food Market has opened a second location in the nearby town of Orangeburg. It's a much smaller store at just about 8,000 square feet, but it has everything that makes the original store impressive -- just at a smaller scale.Previous Tenants: Waldbaum's > Orange Farm Market (2002-2025)
Cooperative: none
Location: 1A Orangetown Shopping Ctr, Orangeburg, NY
