Aldi has arrived in Acton, Massachusetts! This store was most recently a Stop & Shop but was originally built as a Finast, and in 2024 Stop & Shop moved across town to a former Kmart building. Now, around 24,000 square feet of the former Stop & Shop has become an Aldi, one of the few in these northwestern suburbs of Boston. (Other locations are scattered around in Medford, Natick, Leominster, and a couple other places, but there are really very few in this immediate area.) Just to jog your memory, here's a look inside the old Stop & Shop, which was small and gray.

Now, the ALDI continues to be small and gray, but at least it's freshly renovated and honestly the nicest ALDI I've ever been in. Only time will tell if it'll stay as well-stocked and organized as it was when I visited towards the end of August, but I will say that in my experience at least, ALDI stores do sometimes struggle with staying clean and orderly. Not this one...
...which also has ALDI's new decor package, which is being rolled out to other stores, too. Produce is in the front-right corner with baked goods in the rest of the first aisle. Meat and deli items are at the back, with dairy and frozen on the left side in the last aisle.
The area surrounding this ALDI is also fairly affluent, so it's possible they're attempting to present this store a little nicer than the average one. Again, though, I was here just a month after opening, so I do have my doubts as to whether it'll stay this way.
I do like this new decor, as it looks clean and modern and is understated enough to not be particularly noticeable while still being attractive. But as you can see, this store suffers from the same gray-overload that its Stop & Shop predecessor did.
The lit-up food pictures on the perimeter walls do help, though.
A self checkout-heavy front-end is also a bit of a departure from the norm for ALDI, although apparently their newer stores are focused on self checks.
That's all for this ALDI, but check out the rest of this weekend's posts here!
