As 14 of the 19 Western Beef stores transition to Food Bazaar, let's check out the Webster Avenue location in the Bronx! Western Beef actually built this store around 2012, moving from a long-since demolished location at 4269 Park Ave about two blocks south. Most recently, Western Beef renovated it again just this year, and by the end of the month, it's scheduled to become a Food Bazaar (on October 28, to be specific).
As we'll see, the recent renovation was pretty minor. Produce is on the right side with bakery in the back-right corner and dairy on the rest of the back wall. Frozen foods are towards the left side of the store, and previously, the walk-in meat cooler was on the left side. In the renovation, the refrigerated room was removed, replaced with regular meat cases, on the left side of the store. Service seafood and deli are in the front-left corner.
The brick oven breads are a hallmark of Western Beef's offerings, and based on the Prospect Avenue store, it looks like Food Bazaar is at least keeping some of it.
These pictures are from 2023, and I imagine this is basically what the store looked like when it opened back in 2012 or so -- except it does look like the flooring was replaced more recently.
Here you can see the entrance to the meat refrigerator room, which is from the last aisle on the left side.
These walk-in cooler rooms didn't generally have a service meat counter, instead just a window like this where you could ask for special orders. When this store's meat room was removed, they added a service counter.
Seafood and deli in the front-left corner.

Now for a look at the store from just this week, after its renovation that concluded in January.
New paint job and signage on the outside, but the interior looks pretty much the same except for a small handful of changes.
This store definitely isn't in bad shape, but will need some freshening up when Food Bazaar takes over.
You can see that the decor didn't change in the recent remodel.
Above to the right is where the last aisle originally was, and where the doors to the walk-in meat room used to be. Now, the dividing wall has been removed, opening the meat department up to the rest of the store's sales floor and moving the packaged meat into refrigerator units.
Milk and eggs are also in this section.
And there's not a lot of changes to the deli and seafood area, although it looks like they painted over some of the decor here. Not sure why.
And a look across the front-end...

That's all for this weekend, but stay tuned for more coverage as more stores convert from Western Beef to Food Bazaar!
