You almost wouldn't notice that this store wasn't always a Food Bazaar from the outside -- that is, if it weren't for the two little hints of the orange stripe that, not that long ago, crossed the facade. I assume that Food Bazaar will eventually paint that, but for now, they've just repainted the orange stripe red.
Apparently this supermarket was originally a Foodtown, later becoming Western Beef in 1996. It looks like the original supermarket here was larger, around 36,000 square feet, with Western Beef only taking about 25,000 square feet or so. That makes it one of the smallest Food Bazaars, and until or unless the Auto Zone next door goes out of business, there's not really an opportunity to expand here. Let's head in!
Produce is on the right side of the store, with the deli and bakery at the back of the first aisle (doesn't look like there's an in-store bakery here, but there's still a small section for baked goods). Meat is in a walk-in cold room off the back wall, with dairy and frozen on the left side. No service seafood here, either, which I imagine Food Bazaar is likely to add.
Western Beef renovated this store fairly recently, meaning it's in pretty good shape. Food Bazaar really hasn't done much, other than swapping out a couple signs and the aisle markers.
In Ridgewood, Queens, Food Bazaar recently finished a full overhaul of a store about this size. Part of the renovation included adding an in-store bakery and a service seafood department. So they could do the same here, but it might take some reshuffling of the store's layout.
Beer can't be sold until Food Bazaar gets the permit, which will take some time. On the other hand, those mysterious shapes under black sheets look appropriate for Halloween.
Even though the store was remodeled recently (I would estimate around 2024), some of the fixtures do seem to be on the older side like these freezers and dairy cases. They might need to be replaced.
Now for a tour of the Western Beef before it closed...

This is the only supermarket in Roosevelt, but I don't have a real sense of what kind of sales volume it does. Both times I visited, it was pretty quiet, but I imagine if it weren't profitable enough, Western Beef would've closed it long ago. There are a handful of other supermarkets around, including a Fruit Tree Farm, a Gala Foods, and a larger SuperFresh, all about a mile and a half away.
Food Bazaar doesn't seem to have painted the walls here like they did in many of the other locations.
As you can see, not much has changed.

This store is about two and a half miles outside of Hempstead, where there's a much larger and newly renovated Food Bazaar among multiple other new supermarkets. It's also not far from two other Western Beef stores that Food Bazaar acquired, in West Hempstead and Elmont, and you can see more about them here!
