TOUR: Your Independent Grocer - Wolfville, NS

Heading to a larger town about 10 miles south of Canning for today's Tour. Wolfville, a very pleasant small town, is home to the rather awkwardly-named Carl's Your Independent Grocer (something about the double possessive there just doesn't work -- why not simply Carl's Independent Grocer?). As with many downtown stores, it fronts onto Main Street but also has a parking lot in the back. Here's a look at the side that faces Main St. There is no entrance in the back. Heading in, we see the fairly standard layout of produce and deli in the first aisle. There appears to be a mix of newer and older decor here, with the newer hanging panels and the older signs mounted to the cases and on the walls. Very small deli, and it's all prepared foods (very little lunchmeat). I miss my New Jersey delis! Looking across the produce department towards the front of the store. A word of warning: all five entries in Nova Scotia Week are store tours, so get ready for a lot more material coming very soon! Today we'll be touring the store local to the house I rented when I was in the area, so it was one I frequented. And unlike Pete's , I remember this one very clearly! The storefront is not unlike that of many urban NYC-area stores. Except for the fact that Canning's population is about 2500. For a general idea of the layout here, you enter on the left side to a small liquor store in the front corner. Produce and meat are in the first aisle with frozen foods on the back wall. Dairy runs along the last aisle with a small pizza counter in the front corner of the store. There are two checkouts, which for whatever reason run parallel to the front of the store instead of the usual perpendicular. And in we go...
