La Placita is a small Krasdale-affiliated chain with locations in Peekskill (sorry about the formatting, I don't know what happened there), Mount Vernon, and Port Chester in New York, plus Bethel in CT. (A handful of other independents also use the name La Placita.) This location in Union City, NJ was previously a CTown and later Kikos Supermarket, which also has a location in Fairview. This store is only about 12,000 square feet, but it's actually one of the larger supermarkets in the immediate area. It also feels larger because it's a bit more full-service, and has a high ceiling and plenty of space.
Produce is at the front of the store in the front-right corner, with meat in the rest of the first aisle. A service butcher and deli counter is on the back wall, and bakery is in the back-left corner (it looks like they bake in-store but don't have a service counter). Dairy and frozen in the last aisle on the left side.
You can see in these pictures that the store feels larger than some of the truly tiny grocers in this part of Hudson County.
The front-end and customer service are to the left of the produce department on the front wall.
This store is narrow and deep, so there aren't that many aisles but they're pretty long. Six aisles in total, including the first few aisles that are shorter to accommodate the produce department. The rest of produce continues down aisle 1.
This is also where the beef and pork are, and poultry is on the back wall next to the butcher counter.
The butcher counter is very large here, and it's clear meat cut to order is an essential feature in these neighborhoods.
The groccery aisles have mainstream groceries and Latin American foods, and the storebrand is Krasdale.
Deli is in the back-left corner along with baked goods.
It's possible there's a basement for storage or prep space, such as the bakery.
I don't know what the Kikos supermarket here would've looked like, but I think it's safe to say that La Placita did some pretty extensive renovations when they moved in. Since then, they've only done some small updates such as painting the outside and replacing the original dairy cases with these new ones with doors (or perhaps just adding doors to the existing cases).
A look across the front-end...
That wraps up this look at La Placita, but you can see all the other Hudson County stores here!
