Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in July 2020, but was rewritten with new photos in July 2026. Now for the post! About four blocks north of yesterday's
Key Food we see another supermarket. And, like the Key Food, this 9700 square foot store is owned by Jaime Luna.
This store got an interior renovation not too long before I photographed it, and it was looking very spiffy. Deli is in the front-left corner right inside the entrance, with produce in the rest of the first aisle and meat on the back wall. Dairy and frozen are on the right side of the store in the last aisle and there's a few short aisles in the front-right corner of natural foods.
CTown has been here since 1990, and prior to that, it was a Sloan's (part of a local chain). Not sure when Sloan's opened or closed, but it was open during the 1970s.
The remodel does appear to have brought in some new fixtures, while others are older. Overall, though, my impression was that this store was in excellent condition.
I don't see a lot of supermarkets these days with dedicated natural and organic departments, especially among these small-format urban stores, so this was a bit of a surprise (and a reflection of changing populations in this neighborhood).
You can also tour the nearby Key Food above, and these two stores are the main big supermarkets in Hamilton Heights.
