Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in July 2020, but was rewritten with new photos in July 2026. Now for the post! This supermarket is located in the southeast corner of the expansive, 8-acre Ralph J. Rangel public housing complex, and to the north of another complex. It was previously an Associated and before that, a Compare Foods. The switch to Shop Fair didn't involve anything more substantial than a banner over the Associated awning.
Deli is immediately inside the entrance on the left side, with produce and cold cuts lining the rest of the left-side wall of the store. Meats are on the back wall, with frozen and dairy on the right side. Inside, the store still feels extremely old-school if generally well-maintained. I would estimate the store is probably only between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet, though I don't know for sure.
Since I took these pictures in 2021, the store has gotten a new floor.
This store appears to be owned by Luis Corona, who also owns a handful of Fine Fare stores, several in Harlem and the bordering neighborhoods. It's possible that he acquired the store when it switched from Associated to Shop Fair. This is one of two supermarkets in this somewhat isolated corner of Harlem, the other being a Fine Fare (I haven't been able to confirm who owns that one).
This store, like so many in New York City, is small but complete. It shows its age, but it's also gotten some updates over the years.

This post was rewritten on July 6, 2026 with new photos.
