Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in September 2020, but was rewritten with new photos in May 2026. Now for the post! An exceedingly strangely-shaped 22,000 square foot former department store on New Main Street in Yonkers opened in October 2018. The store is owned by Alex Guzman, whose Valley Stream location we've seen previously. It's only 1000 feet from the Greenway Plaza ShopRite.
This store does not have a private parking lot, but backs up to an enormous public lot. Enormous like almost 3 acres. We're going to tour this beautiful store from the front entrance. You enter to deli-bakery-coffee shop in the front right corner. Produce lines the front half of the right aisle, with butcher on the right side wall about halfway to the back. Meats line the rest of the first aisle, with seafood at the back corner. There are a few checkouts on the back wall where there's an entrance and exit, with dairy and frozen in the last aisle. The rest of the checkouts line the front wall.
Like Valley Stream, the deli-bakery-coffee shop is a huge anchor for the store. It takes up this entire corner.
And a large deli counter with hot food at the far end. Produce lines the facing side of the aisle.
The produce department is large and organized, with a lot in the space helping this store punch above its weight as far as selection.
And you can't say it's not fully stocked, especially over in the lettuce...
(Do they actually ever sell this much lettuce? I imagine they wouldn't fill the case as densely as this if it weren't necessary.)
The meat department is behind produce, with a service butcher counter on the right-side wall.
The rest of packaged meats line the first grocery aisle, with service seafood on the back wall.
This is also where the rear entrance/exit is (facing the parking lot), and two registers.
Seafood and two registers on the back wall.
As you can see, about eight years in, this store still looks pretty new. (A few of the fixtures have actually been replaced since it opened.) You can see some signs of age, though, such as patches in the flooring with slightly different tiles.
Shop Fair stores are supplied by General Trading and use the Parade and Life Goods/Life Every Day storebrands.
Frozen and dairy are on the left side of the store in the last aisle...
And heading back up to the front of the store, the main set of registers line the wall facing the street along with beer in the front corner.
There's a rumor (currently unconfirmed) that the mall containing the nearby ShopRite is set to be redeveloped, which would mean the ShopRite would close. If that's true, this Shop Fair would keep a substantial supermarket in downtown Yonkers -- though there are a number of other grocers, including several other independent supermarkets nearby.
