Welcome to the Stop & Shop in West Haverstraw! Thanks to a commenter on my original post from back in 2019 we have a very extensive history of this location, beginning with its opening as Pantry Pride in the late 60s or early 70s. Inserra ShopRite moved in by the late 70s and began a major renovation of the store, expanding it to its present 50,000 square feet. In 2005, Inserra closed the store (possibly around the time Garnerville opened a mile and a quarter west) and three years later, Stop & Shop opened up shop after a renovation, including turning a walkway from the front parking lot to the back parking lot into an extension of the sales floor. In 2010, Inserra opened a much larger new-build store in Stony Point, just under a mile north. We're headed there tomorrow.

This is Inserra's original greenhouse-style facade, which still does not have a Stop & Shop logo on the front -- only on the side of the store, which faces the road. Heading in, we find that the store is disappointingly (but not surprisingly) devoid of charm.

It has the earlier, white version of the fruitbowl decor package with not a whole lot of personality going on. The grand aisle is on the right side of the store, which is closest to route 9W. Bakery, deli, prepared foods, and seafood line the right side of the grand aisle, with meat on the back wall. Dairy begins on the back wall and continues down the last aisle along with frozen foods on the left side of the store. The former walkway area is now the floral department.

This store feels oddly dim, and I assume that's intentional but I don't know why the lighting is so low here. Or is it that the ceiling is beige contrasted to the white walls, giving it a dingier appearance?

I believe the lighting is just limited, not that there are burnt-out lights.

Here we see the ceiling transitioning from beige in the grand aisle to white in the rest of the store, and it definitely looks brighter but still on the dim side.

The grocery aisles are very standard Stop & Shop, but we can see here that maintenance has been excellent in this store even though it's no longer a very new store. That's definitely not the case with many of the New Jersey locations.

Some of the Super Stop & Shop features are present here too, such as a larger nonfoods selection with a large assortment of books and magazines in one aisle.

Here we can see the former walkway now turned over to floral, under a lower ceiling.

I don't believe this store has a pharmacy, but there are HABA aisles (with updated category markers, by the way) on the far left side of the store.

Dairy in the back left corner of the store, and again it feels dim in this corner...

The frozen foods department looks very typical Stop & Shop. It's hard to tell, but I would estimate that Stop & Shop replaced all of the fixtures here when they moved in.

The last aisle has dairy along with natural and organic foods, and here we see what looks like it used to be natural and organic refrigerated goods, but is now just bottled beverages.
