Time for another Stop & Shop! Boston, more or less the hometown for both Star Market and Stop & Shop, has one of each in almost every neighborhood. Here in Roslindale, a Stop & Shop has been in this strip mall on American Legion Highway since the late 1960s, but around 2009, the store was rebuilt just next to the original building. It's still a rather small Stop & Shop, totaling just under 40,000 square feet, but it's a very nice one and still feels very new. Many of the Boston Stop & Shops are both smaller and nicer than the average store in the chain.
This one has a familiar setup, with prepared foods, deli, and bakery lining the left side wall. Meat and seafood are on the back wall, with dairy and frozen on the right side. There's no pharmacy here.
When I visited, the store still had its original decor package. It was more recently renovated to the very gray decor.
Looking up towards the front of the store. As you can see, there's a pleasant airy feeling because of the windows and skylights.
A look across the back wall.
Incidentally, we're just a couple blocks north of the America's Food Basket in Hyde Park, this store's most direct competition. There's more grocery stores about as far away in the other direction, headed north, that we'll be seeing over the next few days.
Dairy begins on the back wall and then continues down the last aisle.
While this store is pleasant and seemed to be well-run overall, it's just...boring. It's very monochromatic and there's no particularly interesting merchandising or offerings, and the renovation doesn't seem to have changed that.
Looking across the back wall, back over towards the grand aisle on the left side...
Still, it's nice enough and clearly serves a need.
A look across the front-end...
Tomorrow, we're headed north to see a discount store about 3/4 of a mile away!
