This 70,000 square foot Shaw's was built around 2000, but might have replaced an older store on the same property or in this strip mall. This is one of two Shaw's in Nashua, the other being on the southern end of town. And while that store is quite pleasant if not amazing, I'd heard horror stories of just how awful this one is. Having finally visited myself, I'm pleased to report that pretty much the strongest thing I could say about this store is that it's completely adequate. I was expecting something terrible, and unfortunately found that at one of the Merrimack locations, but this store was perfectly fine if not particularly remarkable in any way.

Unlike both of the Merrimack locations, both Nashua locations were remodeled pre-COVID, though I don't know the exact year. Over time, both have gotten small updates, but most of the big work was done probably about eight years ago. This store has a standard Shaw's layout of the ca. 2000 era, with produce in the front-right corner and deli in the rest of the first aisle. Service meat and seafood are at the back, with meats lining the rest of the back wall. Beer and wine are in the first aisle, with dairy/frozen on the left side and bakery and pharmacy in the front-left corner.

I get the sense that the Shaw's around here are not great. Most Shaw's fall squarely into the "perfectly fine" category too, but the Market Baskets around here are clearly much higher-volume while the Hannafords in the area are much nicer. This store and the other nearby Shaw's seem to be not nearly as good as some of the Massachusetts stores, possibly because of the presence of Market Basket and Hannaford nearby. Still, you can see that this one seems to do a perfectly fine business and is maintained very well.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but this Shaw's actually appears to have the largest selection of Latin and Caribbean foods in town. Market Basket's international offerings have improved in recent years, and it's never particularly been a strength for Hannaford, but Shaw's has worked hard recently to dramatically improve their international foods program. There's a Latino and Caribbean community here in downtown Nashua, so while multiple small grocers around fill the need primarily, there's some selection here, too.

Most supermarkets in Nashua are either northwest of downtown on the Amherst Street corridor or south of downtown on Daniel Webster Highway, and before we move to the Daniel Webster Highway area, we're going to check out one last store in the southern part of Hudson across the Merrimack River!
