On the other end of town from the Hudson Hannaford is the Hudson Market Basket. This store is around 56,000 square feet, so almost exactly the same size as the Hannaford, and it looks like it was a new-build store by Demoulas back in the early 80s or so. Neither this Market Basket nor the Hannaford has seen major renovation in recent years, but the Hannaford definitely feels a bit more up-to-date.
Inside, this is an old-school but somewhat updated Market Basket, with dairy in the first aisle on the right side. Deli and seafood are at the back, with meat lining the back wall. Frozen and produce are on the left side, with an updated Market's Kitchen and bakery department in the front-left corner. In other words, it has more in common than the Northwest location than the Daniel Webster one across the river in Nashua, though it's pretty close to the Daniel Webster location.
Though cosmetically, Market Baskets tend to look basically the same regardless of age, you can get a clue of the date from the refrigeration. You can see a combination of older refrigeration, like the coffin cases here in the meat department (or the seriously old-school mirrored produce cases across the store), with some newer ones like the meat refrigerators above or the freezers.
Speaking of the Daniel Webster Highway business district, I've brought it up a few times but we haven't seen it yet. That's where we are heading tomorrow for a look at the first of several supermarkets there!
